Gear Up! It's Paddling Time!

Howdy! I made the following post last April... and with paddling season essentially here... at least in the south!... I thought it would be a good idea to "re-post" my paddling gear list. So here is a list of what I always pack for short 2-4 hour day paddles on flat water.

Take a look... leave some comments and let me know if I'm missing any essential gear. Let's compare lists!

Update 4/14/2011 - The BaffinPaddler was "first in" with 5 additional items to the gear list! Thanks! Who else?

  1. Don't forget your neo skirt (I forgot mine this year!), and the pump (or bailing device), a throw rope or towing line (requirements), and a spare paddle strapped to the boat. Paddle float?

What about your waterproof camera and a spare battery?

Lot's of stuff to carry eh?

  2. Good catches! I have a neo skirt for my single seat Aquafusion Liberty. It usually stays stuffed in one of my dry bags and I sometimes forget about it! I keep a throw line attached to the bow and I also keep a spare paddle strapped to my kayak. My camera is not waterproof, but stays in a dry bag. I need to add a bailing device, maybe a sponge? No paddle float. Maybe a good addition to my gear?
